Finally! After weeks of conversations, Marius and Michelle guided us towards the city’s approval of our new design facade right before Christmas. During the process, the city agreed to remove our building from heritage list, allowing us greater freedom (and lower cost!). Because of that, we plan to build 3 storeys. Our decisions were oriented by the city’s guidelines, Ecclesia’s missional vision and final cost. Ultimately, we opted for a facade that will be (1) transparent/glazed (to make what’s happening inside accessible and welcoming), (2) neutral (visually set in context of downtown St. Jerome) and (3) alluding to the past yet facing the future (part classical-red brick and part contemporary-darker tones).
Next steps: get quotes from contractors, launch our fundraising campaign (but you can start giving now!) and finalize our interior design plans. So far, here’s how we want to utilize the space:
- 1st storey: Café/lobby area able to seat 50 people directly from the sidewalk
- 2nd storey: Nursery + administrative and pastoral offices
- 3rd storey: multifunctional open space, perfect for gatherings and training
Can’t wait to share more!
